Easter will soon be upon us – it is late this year and the snowdrops are long gone and the daffs out everywhere a true harbinger of spring.
Unfortunately the donkeys won’t be with us this year for Palm Sunday as their owner’s daughter is getting married up in Cumbria that weekend, but we she will come with the donkeys for the carol service in December which will be exciting.
The Youth Club has been running for a few weeks now and is proving very popular. It will not run during the Easter holidays.
Mothering Sunday service is in school at 10am and will include some special activities as well as posies being given to mums and grans.
Rachel’s Quiz once again proved popular and enjoyable with some delicious food as well. £304 was made for Chapel funds, thanks to who supported it. There will be a coffee morning on 1st May 10-12am for Chapel funds in the Methodist Church Hall at Gawsworth. All the usual stall including cakes and bric-a-brac. Do come along.
Over a hundred people enjoyed the Church Dinner at Horton Village Hall
followed by a singsong and some amusing entertainment. About £1400 was made for Church funds.
Lent lunches are continuing around the parishes with Chapel hosting the one on 2nd April, and Mellow Knowl Farm at Wincle on the 9th. The one at Thrumble Rock was well attended and made £90 for Christian Aid.
The Rose Queen and Fell Run meeting held at the end of February was well attended and plans go ahead for the 60th anniversary event on the 21st June. Help is always needed so do volunteer.
Charlie Heppell is back at school and is grateful for the prayers and support the family received from all.
Our vicar, Revd. Verena Breed, is having a well earned sabbatical from May to the end of July, before she takes up her new post with the new benefice towards the end of the year. The last service she will take at St. Mary’s Church will be on 6th April, and she will be back with us in August.
